Aquaria PhD Cohesion™ Natural 100% Organic Substrate is a nutrient rich, mulch-based substrate base for aquascapes and planted aquariums. Readily available micronutrients, macronutrients and plant food within it create a fertile, natural environment, ideal for an extended period of plant support and growth. Aquaria PhD Cohesion™ is appropriate for the improvement of a healthy root system and to ensure that aquatic plants thrive. The natural Cation Exchange Capacity (CEC) will also absorb any excess nutrients from the water, and either make them available to the roots of aquatic plants, or release them back into the water column once it becomes depleted.

The meticulously selected ingredients create excellent conditions for aquatic plant root systems and supplies plants with all the necessary minerals, trace elements and nutrients as well as releasing it into the water column for plants that prefer leaf feeding during photosynthesis.
Active ingredients act as a natural layer for storing excess nutrients thus maintaining the biological balance in your aquarium. Micronutrient and macronutrient contents have been supplemented under laboratory supervision to ensure that aquatic plants have an abundance of the required nutrient supply, while the chemical balance of the aquarium stays in equilibrium.
Aquaria PhD Cohesion™ is rich in micronutrients, so for the first three months we do not recommend the use of fertilizers containing micronutrients, unless the plants show visible signs of deficiency.
Using a unique formula, Aquaria PhD Cohesion™ may actively feed enough C02 into the water column to further assist healthy plant growth.
HOW TO USE:
- Spread the substrate on the bottom of the tank and compact it to achieve approx. 1-2 cm thick layer.
- Cover with about 3-4cm of gravel, Aquaria PhD Aqua-Quartz, Aquaria PhD balanced river sand or normal aquarium sand.
- Gently fill aquarium with about 15 cm of water. In order to avoid disturbing the substrate, we suggest placing a plate or dish on the bottom, and directing the stream of water on to it.
- Place the plants in the substrate.
Fill the aquarium with water.
3kg of Aquaria PhD Cohesion™ Natural 100% Organic Substrate should be sufficient for a 200 L aquarium with a 100 cm x 40 cm bottom.
Important:
Our substrate may lower and stabilize the pH of your aquarium water; therefore, it is recommended to use a dedicated test or probe to ensure that your pH stabilises before adding fish.
Cohesion is microbial active therefore it may develop a natural white mold on the outer layer when packed. This is normal and it is advisable to use Cohesion as is. This is a sign of a healthy product and will only add to the benefits of the product. You may remove this layer should you desire.
It is recommended to use an Ammonia Test Kit over the initial week as an ammonia spike is expected whilst the substrate stabilizes.
